How to Apply for an Unemployment Benefit Program

We know that a lot of Filipinos only depend on their jobs as their main source of income. So what
will happen if someone loses it? It will badly affect you as your family. Due to the pandemic, a lot of
people failed to keep their job because of the economic crisis that has a big impact on all businesses.
Several companies stopped their operation and others closed some of their branches to make a cost
cutting of expenses.
The Social Security System (SSS) make a way to ease and relieve the suffering through their
Unemployment Benefits Program. Under RA 11199, it provides a separation benefit for Filipinos
who got terminated and lose their jobs because of the pandemic. This program not only refers to
formal employees, but also to house helpers and OFW’s who have been dismissed from their jobs.
Here are the important facts about the Unemployment Benefits Program from SSS.

 WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
1. Prepare an original and photocopy of one (1) primary ID.
A primary ID is usually used in any type of transaction for government and private
institutions. Everyone should have at least two (2) valid IDs to easily
validate your identity.

Here are some lists of primary IDs here in the Philippines that are easy to apply.
 SSS ID/ SSS UMID from SSS
 Philippines Passport from DFA
 Driver’s License from LTO
 PRC ID from PRC
 GSIS ID/ GSIS UMID from GSIS
 OWWA ID from OWWA
 Voter’s ID from COMELEC
 Seniors Citizen ID
 PWDs ID
 NBI Clearance
2. Certificate of involuntary separation from DOLE.
It must be indicated the important details such as the nature and date of separation of
the person.
3. Notice of Termination from the Employer.
If you have been terminated from your job for a reason, you should receive a notice
from your employer. It is called a notice of termination which is notified from your
employer that you are being layoff or fired from your job.

4. Affidavit of Termination of Employment.
You may check and download it on www.dole.gov.ph.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT PROGRAM

Since almost all cities and provinces are under GCQ and MECQ, you may submit the
requirements personally to SSS branches near your place. You may also call the local SSS
branches to make sure if they get back from operations.
 FACTS ABOUT SSS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT PROGRAM
 Remember that this benefit from SSS is not considered a loan. It is like maternity,
sickness, disability, retirement, funeral, and death benefits that don’t need to be paid.
 You can apply for this benefit even if you have pending loans like salary or calamity
loan.
 Filing for this benefit should be within one year from the date of your
unemployment.
 This benefit is only valid for ages 60 years old and under.
 To avail of this benefit, the member should have at least 36 monthly contributions.
 A member is not eligible for this benefit if he/she is terminated due to disobedience,
fraud, misconduct, and other violation under the rules and regulations of the
company.
 If you are qualified, you will receive an amount of 20,000 equal to your average
monthly salary credit.
